How do I get started?
I am on faculty at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music Preparatory Department. To arrange for lessons please contact the Music Registrar Peggy Grant (peggy.grant@uc.edu). You can also contact me directly.
Who studies in the Preparatory department?
I have a wide range of students in terms of age, musical experience and personal goals. I have worked with:
- Young children who have never played clarinet before
- Middle and high school students seeking to supplement the musical experience they get at school
- Advanced students planning to audition for college music programs
- University students who are not music majors
- Adults pursuing a fulfilling hobby
How much does it cost?
The following fees have been current since the fall of 2005:
Private Lessons for Children and Adults:
Fifteen 30-minute lessons per semester.......$350
Fifteen 45-minute lessons per semester.......$525
Fifteen 60-minute lessons per semester.......$700
Individual Lessons
30-minute lessons per semester.......$24
45-minute lessons per semester.......$35
60-minute lessons per semester.......$48
Annual Registration Fee: $20.00
Payments are made out to the University of Cincinnati.
Students are encouraged to have weekly lessons and billing is by two 15-week Semesters. Other arrangements are considered on a case by case basis and must be approved by the Preparatory department. You can bring your payment to your lesson or send it to the Preparatory department.
What length of lesson is right for me?
This depends on your age, previous musical experience and personal goals. Once I know a bit more about you then I can make a recommendation.
How do I register?
Once we have set up a lesson, you will need to register through the Preparatory department. Click here to download a registration form.
Where do the lessons take place?
All lessons take place in Mary Emery Hall on the campus of the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music.

When are the lessons?
I highly recommend coming for lessons at the same time every week. We can usually find a time that works for your schedule and mine. Occasionally I have to change lesson times because of my performing schedule. I will always let you know in advance and make up any lessons I have to change or cancel.
What if I have to miss a lesson?
Preparatory department policy is as follows:
Notification by the student of inability to attend a private lesson does not excuse payment for the lesson, which must be paid for, whether taken or missed. At the teacher’s discretion, unavoidable absences will be made up when possible. Students taking private lessons are allowed one make-up lesson per semester. They must contact their teacher 24 hours in advance to cancel the lesson. There is a week at the end of each semester devoted to make-up lessons.
I do my best to make up any missed lessons, but please contact me as soon as possible if you are not coming to a scheduled lesson.
Click here for more Preparatory department policies.
